The 9th Workshop on Social Capital and Development Trends in the Swedish and Japanese Countryside

The objective of the workshop is to discuss common topics of rural regions of Sweden and Japan, with the concept of social capital as common denominator. This workshop is the seventh workshop with this theme and will be arranged as a special session of the European Regional Science Association’s 50th Anniversary Congress. Topics of interest in this workshop include :
Social capital in business life, government and civil society
Policies for rural development
Community governance and partnerships
Commons and their management
Local engagement, social economy and the third sector
Sustainable management of natural resources
Tourism’s role in rural development
Climate changes’ threats and opportunities for the countryside
平成24年5月24日から26日にかけて3日間、第9回過疎地域におけるソーシャル・キャピタルに関するシンポジウムが開催され、地域開発と資源管理に関する知見を高めることができました。スウェーデン、アメリカ、日本、韓国などから約30人の研究者が参加し、経済学、土木計画学、情報学、歴史学、地理学の分野における地域開発に関する先進研究について議論し合いました。特に，農山村地域の持続的な発展に関する各国の共通課題について議論し合い、ソーシャル・キャピタルの側面から革新的な学問的展望を提供することを目的としたものです．以下は、その様子です。
